(First Grade/ DRA 6) Read Aloud for Mr. Fin’s Trip An amusing book for children to read with me, since it’s loaded with repetitive text. Suggested follow-up activity is for children to draw a picture showcasing their favorite part of the story and then write a sentence or two to go with it. This is a wonderful book in discussing text features with children. It contains all the basic text features (contents, index, chart, photos, labels, and captions) that young children need to know and understand how to use. A FREE text feature chart w/answer for children to complete is available at https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/First-Grade-DRA-4-Text-Feature-Chart-wanswer-key-for-Encyclopedia-of-Places-5477261 Two videos are shown below: The first video shows Tops and I modeling the text features found in the book. The second video is a basic read aloud for the book. Children can use this FREE generic graphic organizer to draw and/or write about something they found interesting in the book. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Stretch-Your-Brain-Generic-Graphic-Organizer-5003512 In this nonfiction book for First Grade/DRA 4, students learn about text features, which is a valuable skill in reading nonfictional text. Since children love to learn, especially about animals, this book is a novelty when it comes to keeping a child's interest. There are two videos. The first one introduces the student to the text features found in this book; while the second is a read aloud only. A FREE text feature chart (with an answer key) is available at my TPT store. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/First-Grade-DRA-4-Text-Feature-Chart-for-Small-and-Large-with-answer-key-5461258 This nonfiction book (First Grade/DRA 4) is a great resource to use in introducing children to the following text features: photos, labels, captions, and a chart. There are two videos posted. The first one introduces children to the text features found in the book. The second is a read aloud only.
